CHECKOUT 606

The cashiers of checkout 606 are in an existential crisis. Time drifts slowly, and life runs on automatic. As the cashiers escape into their imagination, carrots begin to dance, their overbearing boss transforms into a green onion monster, and they can finally beat their rival checkout in a synchronized swimming competition. And you thought you knew your local grocery store. A hilarious, high-energy comedy for the whole family.

Caisse 606, the original french version of the show has toured extensively around the province of Quebec and has been performed more than 200 times.

THE COMPANY:
La Fille du Laitier is a theatre delivery service, bringing creative and innovative theatre to your doorstep. Using a portable theatre scene attached to a delivery truck, we travel around the small communities in the City of Montreal, with the aim of democratizing art, creating a theatre that is affordable and accessible to those who may not normally get the chance to experience it. Our mandate is to produce family-friendly new texts or adaptations of classics, for the outdoor stage, and for English and French audiences alike. The company currently has three theatre productions which are also available to perform in indoor venues.

Jon Lachlan Stewart
Jon is a graduate of the National Theatre School's directing program, as well as a graduate of the acting stream of Studio 58 in Vancouver. Working bilingually in Montreal, Jon envisions a theatrical language that is physical, visceral, building gestural codes and movements like a game onstage. He strives to create theatre that surpasses spoken language, and urges people to reperceive their world.
Directing credits include Madame Catherine prépare sa classe de troisième pour l’irrémédiable (Théâtre Prospero and Québécois tour), The Little Prince: Reimagined (Crows’ Theatre) Ruddigore (Lakeshore Light Opera), Macbeth Muet (International tour), Tong: a tip of the tongue opera (La Fille du Laitier) and Before Her Time: 3 Plays by Samuel Beckett, (National Theatre School), as well as the first Quebecois translation of Tracy Letts’ Killer Joe (La Licorne staged reading). Jon’s upcoming projects as a director include Jonathan: La Figure du Goéland (Geordie Productions / Denise Pelletier), which explores Richard Bach’s timeless Jonathan Livingston Seagull through the lens of disability, L’Origine des Rayures, a new creation by playwright Marianne Danserau, and Covenant, by esteemed emerging playwright Alice Abracen.
